Chest pain questions???

by thytaysmom, Feb 24, 2008 04:40PM
I am a 29 female.I am 5'6" and weigh 290 lbs and basically physically inactive.Several weeks ago I had severe chest pain.No warning and right over where heart is that lasted less then 30 seconds.I remember grabbing at my chest and it hurt SO BAD. When it was over I felt crampy in my chest but otherwise fine. Then a few minutes later it happened again the same way and left the same way.I had not been physical during the day or done anything .Since then I have had chest pains with worsening symptoms.I went to dr after I first had the pains and had chest CT with contrast done, head CT and chest x-ray.Also a treadmill stress test but I was unable to complete it being I am so out of shape and the dr said I was too young to have anything wrong and never rescheduled. All tests showed nothing. He said probably torn muscle, even though I had done nothing.Over time though it never went away, started happening more frequently and I also started getting headaches that medicines will not relieve, sometimes a lightheadedness and of course pains or chest tightening or crampiness. My heart races at nights and wakes me up to a pulse of 190 and all I was doing was sleeping nothing slows it but in the mornings  my pulse is 60-70.. about 1 week ago was awakened with severe left shoulder and left arm pain.Went up into my left side kneck a little and into back shoulder blade top left shoulder and down into left arm and was awful pain.My heart was racing at times and then felt as though it skipped a beat and I could tell this with my pulse too.Went to ER had EKG and chest x-ray and both were normal.ER dr said he ruled out heart attack but nothing else to go see a dr. I did and so far blood work came back as really high cholesterol, glucose and LDL and my blood pressure is all over.Ranges from 110/60 to 175/96 without doing anything.Dr is wanting to have treadmill stress test done but said based on my age it probably isn't anything.I am in pain , I KNOW something is not right.I also have tingling in my forearms, hands, fingers, calves, bottoms of feet and toes like when you lay on your arm too long and it starts waking up the pins and needles that sort of tingling and severe left calf leg pain. Not sure if related but thought I would mention .Heart disease runs in my family EVERYONE is on bp medicines, cholesterol medicne, had heart attacks and strokes and my daughter was born with congenital heart defects.I am worried and want to know what test would completely rule out this is my heart? My blood veins have become VERY noticeable on my chest and shoulders, never had prominant veins in my whole life, but you can see them ALL like webs so could this be some sort of inflammation or blockage? I do not want my age to not get the care I need and it is. Something is wrong and I have no idea what to ask to be done or what to think and worry I will have a heart attack while waiting or trying to get a dr to help me.I asked for monitor to wear and dr feels I am too young for any real trouble, I asked for echocardiagram and same response, all I hear is I am too young and I AM NOT and already have really high cholesterol and all.Any comments or anything this sounds like or comments or suggestions? I know to lose weight but was told not to be physical due to bp so I do not knwo what to do.
Thanks

I have a lot of the same symptoms you talk about.  I do not have high cholesterol, high BP, or diabetes though.  Besides the pains I am pretty much in good health so they don't know what is wrong with me.  I have had numerous cardiac workups done in the past year and they all came back negative.  I do have a hiatal hernia, which I was told could press on areas and cause pain.  I have read it can cause pains on the left side of the body, but of course I still think it is heart related.

I would definetly get the stress test done and see what that says.  If you can't complete it they can give you a shot that will stimulate your heart like you have had a full run.  I have never had problems with the test so I don't know too much about getting the shot, but I have read others on here stating that they were unable to run on the treadmill.

I would like to tell you that it is not heart related because that is what they told me and we have VERY similar symptoms, but I am not a doctor.  Just get checked out so that they can rule everything out.  If all cardiac tests come back negative perhaps try a gastro doc to see if maybe it is GERD or a possible hernia.  Good luck to you and once you found out let me know please.
