Complications following surgical ASD repair

Complications following surgical ASD repair

My daughter (age 20) had a surgical ASD repair six months ago.  The repair was successful (per post-operative echocardiography) and her recovery seemed routine.  She is a collegiate track athlete, and has recently been experiencing shortness of breath and fatigue, as well as intermittent pain in her left upper chest.  She was also treated for strep throat in the past two weeks.  She saw her cardiologist this week, and her heart sounds are good and her EKG is normal.  An echocardiogram revealed thickening of the pericardium.  Is this a typical finding following surgical ASD repair?  Could there be an association with the recent strep infection? (The cardiologist took blood cultures; results are pending.) Can the pericardial thickening explain her symptoms?  What are her options at this point?  Thanks.
