Concerns about arrhythmia

Thank you Dr. for your time.
In a structrually normal heart (38yr old)is a gradual speeding up of the heartrate and gradual return to normal sound like svt? No lightheadness, just feelings of anxiousness. All stress echos, ekgs, bloodwork all normal except slight mvp with trace regurgitation.  This occurs infrequently and only recently within the past year. Also experience early beat at times. Is there such a thing as an imbalance in the nervous system assoc/w mvp, dysautonomia? Could this be a factor? At the times I experienced it I noticed I was exactly mid-cycle, any possible relationship? I have had a tilt table test several years ago, at that time showed blunted dysautonomia.(not sure what that meant). I saw a post a while back with someone with similar symptoms, does this tend to be common with women? Long term prognosis?

Thank you.

Hi Dande,

Sorry to hear about your heart rate problems.  Any time your heart rate slowly or gradually returns to normal, it is not a reentrant tachycardia like AVNRT, AVT, WPW, or VT.  This tends to occur from inappropriate sinus tachycardia (which means that you get tachycardic without an appearant physiologic reason and we aren't sure why) or because of anxiety attacks.  The key is always to catch it on a monitor to document the initiation and termination.

Inappropriate sinus tachycardia can occur in people with "dysautonomia."  Again, this is not a well understood phenomenon. It absolutely could be a factor, but it is difficult to treat.

I do no know of a described relationship with cycles.

We tend to see more women with this problem.

The long term prognosis is no different than a matched population.

I hope this helps answer your questions.  Good luck.

Have finger touch monitor. Used it as soon as I could after the last time and the reading showed 92bpm and nothing else, though this was during the time my rate was slowing down. No pvc, or pac felt prior to acceleration of heartrate or during. Also have worn event monitors in past one I had for several months and nothing concerning per my cardio occured.
