Confused

I was dx with MVP as at 12 and told that I would outgrow it. I started seeing a new cardiologist for dizziness after exercise, near fainting spells, and fast hr when relaxing, a year ago who said that indeed it was gone.  I recently started a new job that required a physical.  The physician asked me if I knew I had a murmur and told him that I was told I had outgrown it.  My question is how can a physician that only saw me once and my cardiologist that sees me more often not hear it?  Also, I had an echo at 12 years old and I am 23 now, should I have another?

Dear manatee,
Murmurs can shift in intensity depending on hemodynamic circumstances such as blood pressure, volume status, etc. at the time of examination.  In addition, some murmurs are "benign" and are more common in young people.  You doctor can tell you if there is a need for a repeat echocardiogram in light of your clinical picture.
