Congenital Complete Heart Block

Congenital Complete Heart Block

Hi, I'm a 33 year old from Sunny Scotland and looking for some advice.  Hope you don't mind me posting on your forum.  I've had an irregular heart beat since birth which sits at 42-45 bpm and 36 bpm in bed at night. It's now been referred to as Congential Complete Heart Block and not just an irregular heart beat anymore. I've never had any symptoms of dizziness, black outs, fainting etc.. and I am very fit and healthy and have recently given birth to twins.  My consultant is recommending that I have a pacemaker fitted.  I was always told that my heart was not a problem and was diagnosed as benign, but since I had my twins, it seems to have opened a can of worms and now it is current practice to have a pacemaker fitted as a preventative measure.  I'm absolutely terrified and have said no as I need time to think about it.  There are so many questions I would like answers to.  Hopefully someone can help.
1. Can you feel the pacemaker through your skin with your fingers?
2. What sensations do you get when walking through customs, shop doors, using phones etc...?
3.  Mine will only kick in at 40 bmp which will be night time.  Can you feel it kicking in or starting to work?
4.  What implications are there for everyday life?
5.  If I don't feel comfortable with it, can it be removed?
Hope someone can help me out.  Just a bit disillusioned with it all as I feel completely well and too young to be going through this.   Karen

Hi Karen,

I'm not very suppositive here.  I wish I'll get someone like me always tell the true (not just comfort and encourage).  I didn't get one so I have a pacemaker...  Now I see this page, I feel like nuts and I'm crying and crying.   Why I need people to support and hiding all these bad bad things?  If I've seen this page then I would consider the advantages and DISADVANTAGES.  Measure the weight which side is more benefit to me.  Have a look and please make a comment.  Sorry I'm so down.  Take care

Pika
