Conversion order of things

by George Daniel, Sep 20, 1999 12:00AM
A  relative who has atrial fibrillation is scheduled for conversion, first to be kept overnight in the hospital on Pronestyl.  If this is unsuccessful, then electroconversion would be done still keeping the Pronestyl going.  Is it OK to to electroconversion while still on Pronestyl?  Is this the normal order of things: Medication first and then electroconversion?

Also she has been told that the atria are enlarged - what does this imply?

I appreciate your anwers.  Thanks

Dear Daniel,

this is completely appropriate management.  The atria are enlarge either due to hypertension or valvular disease and is the likely cause of her atrial fibrillation
