Could this be Heart Failure??

Posted By Barbara on July 23, 1999 at 09:29:22
I am a 35 year old female who was diagnosed as having had a moderate silent heart attack 3 years ago. This diagnosis was made following an echo, stress test and catheterization. I was told my ejection fraction was 50% and that I had normal coronary arteries.   I am currently taking a low-dose aspirin daily.  I don't smoke and rarely drink, but I am 40 lbs. overweight. No definite cause was ever determined for the MI.
Lately I have noticed that both ankles are swollen . They were especially bad one very hot and humid day - I could actually press down and leave an indentation that day.  Could this be a symptom of heart failure? Or is it because I am overweight and sit at a desk job all day?  I walk on a treadmill for 20 minutes a few days a week with no problems, and I don't feel like I have any difficulty breathing. My only other symptom is frequent palpitations.     Do you think the swollen ankles are due to heart failure?
