Could this be angina?

My 81 year old husband has CAD and had a stent placed almost a year ago. In the past five or so months he has had a strange symptom that I can't really place. He has never had pain associated with his heart problems, but he has had this pulsating sqeezing or pressure that occurs near the middle of his back. It's not really pain, and it doesn't start in the front of his chest but it is quite regular and is increasing in frequency. Could it be angina, even though it doesn't involve the front of his chest? It is a real puzzle and often wakes him in the middle of the night, and often has an event when he gets up in the morning. It can last from a few minutes to more than an hour. We a puzzled. Any ideas? He also has increasingly severe PAD, especially in his left foot.

Pain in the arms, neck, jaw, shoulder or back pain can be angina although it is not typical stable angina that occurs with exertion and relief at rest.  Because your husband's coronary occlusion without angina could be the condition has slipped into unstable angina. Unstable angina occurs even at rest; there Is a change in the usual pattern of angina and is unexpected.  It is usually more severe and lasts longer than stable angina, maybe as long as 30 minutes. May not disappear with rest or use of angina medication.  Your husband should see a doctor to rule out a heart attack.
