Could this be heart-related?

My daughter was admitted to the ER after a week of progressing edema in one then both legs, shortness of breath and a pulse rate in the 40's. She's in the ER and says she feels worse if she is laying flat. They did a chest x-ray and ultrasound on her legs.  A friend of mine said she needs to have a CT scan with contrast to check her lungs for a blood clot and a doppler scan instead of ultrasound on her legs to check for a deep vein thrombosis. She is 37 yrs old, not overweight but hasn't been to a Dr in yrs.  I am out of state and worrying more and more. Her natural grandmother died at 52 of a pulmonary embolism and I have been plagued by a-fib for yrs.  Anybody have any ideas or suggestions about what this could be.  I could sure use a little guidance and support here.  Thanks in advance...

Thanks so much for your reply...that's something I hadn't even considered. If they didn't check it in the hospital I'll tell her to get it checked out.  They released her after several hrs and told her she'dprobably been on her feet too long. All this started last Sun. when she had not been on her feet very much rthat weekend.  So I guess we'll have to take a wait and see approach and see if she presents any more of those symptoms.

If she does, especially the shortness of breath, I'll try to get her to make an appt with a cardiologist.  Can't believe no one else would offer any help on my thread.  Maybe it's because it was a holiday weekend?
