Daily Pain around Heart

by Jackofallnutz, Oct 27, 2009 01:08PM
Hello.

I am a sixteen year-old male, with allergies to shellfish.

Two years ago, I had a sudden case of  Pluracy. After two hours of being on the "Nurse-Hotline", I was told to head to our local hospital. That is when they diagnosed that it was a case of Pluracy. They gave me some pharmaceutical medication, and sent me on my way. Since then, I have visited a family doctor twice about this issue. They said that it was probably "growing pains", and it did not concern the system enough to look further.

During the two year period, I have also had a chest ex-ray, which did not show anything. I was also hooked up to a portable ECG for a full 24 hours, which did not show anything.

I now basically have daily chest pain around my heart, just to the left of it. When I had my Pluracy, I had short breaths, and chest pain as well. It is light pain now, but constant. Also, my heart skips beats randomly, sometimes only one beat, or a massive four, in which I start to freak out, then it regains its pace.

My father has a irregular heart beat, but overall, my family has no recorded medical issues.

I am starting to get desperate on this issue. I have done much research into it, and nothing has came up helpful. I would accept any help in my problem.

I apologize if my information is jumbled at all. Please, if I have not given the adequate amount of information, feel free to ask.

Thank you!

One thing that comes to mind is a condition known as pericarditis.  You should have an echocardiogram done to make sure that isn't an effusion around the heart.  Sometimes an MRI of the chest can also be helpful.  Sounds like these symptoms have been going on for a while and are actually getting worse.  This alone warrants further workup and some therapy with either stronger anti-inflammatory agents or other meds.  Pleurisy is also a possibility.  The MRI would also help sort it out as well.  I would suggest getting a second opinion from a cardiologist or visiting a more advanced care center.
