Congested heart failure would/can be quickly ascertained, but the underlying cause for CHF may have taken longer to determine and the medical examiner wanted to rule out a specific cause for heart failure and that would explain the reason for a tissue analysis.
Ken
so what your saying is if that is what she would have truly died from it shouldnt have took 6 months to get the report back?
Yes, an autopsy would show fluids in the lung tissues. Also, the lung and heart have a normal size and weight, and an autopsy would weigh the organs and an over weight of the organ would indicate fluids in the lungs. Also, the left ventricle would have oversized heart walls, etc.
Also, if necessary the heart vessels can be inspected for any plaque buildup and the advancement of the disease...heart tissue can show scarring and any oxygen deprived heart cells that would cause the heart to not pump blood with adequate efficiency.
It seems the autopsy would have a very quick analysis, and not 6 months later! Blood would have markers in the blood showing a recent heart attack, and it wouldn't take 6 months...hospital lab would be able to dx. Heart tissue analysis may take longer to rule out any toxic substance in the tissue and/or heart muscle disease.
Hope this provides some insight, and thanks for your question. Take care,
Ken
