Dental Work

by Kathryn in Portland, Oct 18, 1999 12:00AM
My son who has Congestive Heart Failure went to the Detist recently for work on a crown. The Dentist is aware of his CHF status and medications. He offered my son Nitrous Oxide for pain while doing the procedure. ??? The Nitrous Oxide made my son feel like he was going to pass out and they had to give him Oxygen to bring him out of it immediately. Is it OK for a CHF patient to have Nitrous Oxide for Dental procedures?

There is increased risk of anesthesia in patients with CHF and it should be administered with caution but in general nitrous oxide should be OK.
