Diagnosed with Viral Myocarditis in February 2011
Can a history of heart disease increase the occurrence of having viral myocarditis, I am a 54 yr. old woman?

From what I know and understand about viral myocarditis, I don't think a history of heart disease would cause this, but would indeed make the recovery period longer and outcome not as good as without heart disease.  I understand this is caused by colds or viral infections that penetrate the heart.  While heart disease weakens the heart, it would still need a virus to cause viral myocarditis.  I will look closer into this again.
