Diagnosis of Marginal Concentric LVH

by hankstar, Dec 16, 2003 12:00AM

Dear Doctor,

These are the numbers from my echo nearly 3 years ago.
IVSTS 17.3 mm
IVSTD 12.1 mm
LVIDD 45.3 mm
LVPWD 9.2 mm
LIVDS 25.7 mm
LVPWS 15.o mm
ET 312ms
EF .75

IVSTD 10.7 mm
IVSTS 15.3 mm
LVIDD 43.0
LVPWD 10.1 mm
LIVDS  28.3 mm
LVPWS  14.4 mm
ET  304 ms

EF .64

These are 2 different measurements taken from the same short axis echo. I was diagnosed at the time with marginal concentric left ventricular hypertrophy, probably due to mild hypertension.

My B/P is very much controlled averaging around 110/70 now.

Would you agree with diagnosis of marginal concentric LVH and it has been 3 years since this echo. The other only thing stated on the echo was a redundancy of the mitral leaflets without frank mitral valve prolapse.

Do you think that these numbers 3 years ago reflect the need for another echo at this time or that I could wait another year or two.

These were the only 2 issues raised on my echo report, Would this qualify as a normal heart, despite the marginal LVH, which I would take to mean neither here nor there/ borderline and the redundancy of the mitral leaflet without frank MVP.

  Thanks in advance,
               Hank.

Hank,

Your on a message tear lately!

In the absence of any symptoms, there really isn't any urgency for a repeat echocardiogram.

While some of your measurements are on the thicker side, don't obsess too much with the actual numbers.  This is usually the advice you are giving others.

Strict blood pressure control is the key to prevent progression and even potentially have some regression.

good luck

hey hank, do you have a code that permits easy access to post a question? Or is there a secret "time window" that you've discovered or been informed about?   I've been trying for weeks to post a question and the new system is very effective at preventing my access.  I recall a post recently by an official of the website that was obviously done with an override of the system.

Unless you've been sitting there trying to post a question every minute of the day and night I cannot see how you got in twice in a row.

Hi jdm!  Try posting around 8:30-9:00 EST. I was able to get in twice at that time.  Good Luck!
