Dialated Cardiomiopathy/Paracarditis & Congestive Heart Failure

by Sissy79, Mar 21, 2007 12:00AM
I was 23 when I went into complete CHF.They did not think I was going to make it.They said it was due to Dialated Cardio.& Paracardities. It was failing heart due to having children. My left Vent. was damaged and E.F was 14%.it went up to 35%.This was 8/02,I was unable to stay in with a Dr. due to ins. etc.
I'm on verampamil, enalipril,&asprin everyday.I've just recently gotten in with a free clinic and they did an echo.My results have me confused. The Dr.says my E.F is up to 55%.Great!,but there is some valves that are not closing fast enough and blood is flowing back into the chambers.I don't really understand and I'm trying to be brief. We have discussed coming off the heart meds to make me feel better.I have tried to find a Dr.concerned enough to help me,but no bananas.I have a lot of swelling in my legs and get really weak.I often fall from my legs just giving out. They hurt.I believe strong in Gods miracles, but you have to help yourself to.My famliy needs me.I fight everyday to keep the energy to take care of my kids.(ages4,6,&8)Finding experienced cardiologist is out of my reach.I am trying everything herbal, vitamins, diet, and excercise. Please I'm up for any suggestions to help me understand whats going on?The Dr says the changes can go up and down. How do I feel better?

With your history, you really should be speaking with a cardiologist.  I am not sure why that is not in your reach.  Do you not have insurance?  If not, you could try contacting some hospitals in your area to see if they offer programs for the uninsured.  If you're experiencing symptoms, they definitely need to be brought to the attention of a qualified medical professional.

I do not have insurance.Every kind of help to be gotten is all about money. That is why I have went so long untreated.I have actually had to make arrangements for payment on the echo. The clinic is wonderful, but can only do so much.Thank you so very much for responding,it means a lot to know people care. Bless You.

Sissy, please visit www.amothersheart.org  They can help point you in the right direction, I think.  It's a site about cardiomyopathy for women.

I have a really good health food store by me.  The owner was a nurse...  I was going to ask some questions for myself since my cousin passed away unexpectedly from it not quite a year ago.  I will let you know what I find out.  Vitamins are not cheep, but I think vital!  And hey, no side effects!
