Dilated Arota

I am having open heart surgery in June to repair my dilated arota. I am 25 years old and in good health. I am curious how long of a recovery I am looking at for this surgery?

I don't believe the recovery period would be any different than a bypass.  However, with a bypass there can be a problem at the site where the harvest of the vein occurred.  For a bypass it takes about 3 months for relief from some pain discomfort and up to about a year for complete recovery.  A younger person and otherwise good health may be able to cut the time in half. This is assuming no marfin disease and preservation of the aorta valve.

Thanks for the question, good luck and I wish you well going forward.  Take care,

Ken
