Dizziness question for collegegirl and others.

Can anyone explain to me the difference between dizziness and cardiac dizziness.   When you are dizzy do to a  heart problem does it have a certain characteristic?  For instance, feeling dizzy when doing excercise then goes away after a few mins.  etc.  Or cardiac dizziness only lasts x amount of time.

Last night i got so dizzy i felt like i couldnt even walk. and it lasted a really long time.  all night it felt like.  Im also losing weight like crazy and feel like my brain isnt getting enough oxygen.   I dont know whats wrong with me.

its a hard thing to work through, but you want to get better and thats whats important, i think you'de be surprised how quickly you will start to feel better if you seek treatment for the anxiety,

Im from MA but living in AZ right now.. how about you?

see, syncope, like you have with cardiac problems, is very different from feeling like oyu're going to topple over. Its common to get the two confused.

yeah I hear what your saying.  Ive gotten the faint feeling once before.  But only once.  I just got up from sleeping kind of in a bad mood one day.  Went outside it was really humid and all of the sudden like .. **** i cant even explain it.  I felt like i was going to pass out/faint. and stuff started to look weird like a cartoon.  Ever since that day i have been feeling like **** anxiety. worries and stuff for over a year.

Wish me luck. heh. Ill need it.  Just curious where are you from?

its possible.  The vertigo isnt that often.  I get that very rarely and im not even sure its really vertigo.  It doesnt feel like the whole room is spinning completely.  but im off balance and feel like im going to topple over.  Mostly its more of a foggy faint feeling or head clogged feeling. who knows anymore.  i might check out some medications to see if that helps. If it doesnt then maybe there is something wrong with me

Thanks everyone for your responses, its greatly appreciate.  Im sorry to hear about your anxiety troubles college girl.  Its killing my life too.  I have lost so much weight.  It kind of helped me but still makes me nervous how much weight ive lost.  I was around 169 in the summer of 2005 now im 159.

My close friends, my family. everyone says its anxiety.  And I do believe I have anxiety.  Im just not sure if thats the only thing at work.  I cant tell the difference anymore.  The anxiety is complicated. subtle, and can come and go for no reason.  and truly makes me feel like im sick.  and as soon as i feel better, i get a new symptom to dwell on.  Like the skipped beat sensations, or the dizzy vertigo feeling.  Im just a mess lol.  I hope you have beaten your anxiety.  I dont know if I can.

I get dizzy spells.  Sometimes they don't happen for months, sometimes they're daily.  In any event, I've been checked from head to toe and there doesn't seem to be any explanation.  I notice it goes hand in hand with anxiety, so I suspect anxiousness may be a factor in triggering it.  When my stress is up, I'm more prone to it.

No they never made ME dizzy, but everyone reacts differently. Generally anti depressants are very well tolerated, and most are one a day treatments...Your dizziness sounds inner ear related, and if you went to see your primary doctor i wouldnt find it suprising at all if you had fluid in your inner ear. If the vertigo is persistant, you may have a very slight case of labrynthitis, which is an inner ear inflammation. Both are very treatable and anti depressants would not aggrivate them in any way.. And think, if you stop being so anxoius, the vertigo feeling wont be scary to you..You're in this vicious cycle of panic so many people get in, and getting some help is really the only way out

yes i have, and its sad to me to look back and see what a horrible condition i was in.. I went from weighing 117 lbs to 98.. i was a sick mess.  A good way to help yourself would be to start talking to a counselor, get on some anti depressants (they work great for anxiety) hang on for two weeks and see how you feel. Also, i found working out helps the anxiety melt away quickly.. Also starting some kind of hobby you enjoy helps alot. Sometimes the body's way of responding to not being active enough is anxiety. Exersize your mind and body, and try and get a professionals perspective. I guarentee you'll feel better.. What have you got to lose? good luck!!!

I think that comment made alot of sense.  Do you think its a good idea i try welbutrin?  My mother received the perscripttion for quiting smoking. Im also a heavy smoker.. She dosnt want to use the pills.  Should i take them?  sounds like i could kill two birds with one stone. Im just very scared about the drug making me feel worse or even dizzier

It sounds like it would be scary even if it was minor.  God knows really.  Maybe its something like a pinched nerve, then anxiety causes the heart to race and do funny things.  I have no idea anymore.  They say anxiety can do ANYTHING.  Ive heard such crazy things and it was anxiety.  I myself have trouble believing everything i feel is anxiety.

The very sad part about everything and medicine in general is that there could be alot of advancements in medicine.  At nyu we read alot about case studies and the technology is there.  These ekgs, echocardiograms, and the rest of the 1,000's of tests could be replaced with one test. a complete 3d image of the entire heart. interior and exterior.  Same technology could be applied to papsmeres, ancient barberic mammograms etc.  But the sad news is that when we are totally unsure whats wrong with us, or dizzy,  You will have to go through 100 tests before you are convinced your ok.
Watch what will happen in 5-10 years im guessing. Remember this post.

I wouldnt take anyone elses medication without being under the supervision of a doctor.  Besides medications like zoloft, celexa, and lexapro have showed better results with anxiety.. I took celexa for awhile when i was a teenager, and it made me feel wonderful. It allowed me to be myself again. Thats an important thing to remember. Anti depressants dont make you happy, they ALLOW you to be happy. there is a big difference. the only thing they ever did to me was make me take a 20 minute nap after a dose..

I hear what your saying. I appreciat eyour feedback.  Sorry to consume all of your time and energy.   I thought about taking the welbutrin pills because its a one a day pill.  And was given to my mother who is 72 for quiting smoking.   I figured If i wanted to quit smoking they would prescribe the same thing to me.  I figured this might also help with my anxiety problems since it is a anti depressant.  But i guess you are right. I just thought it wouldnt hurt to try it.

thanks for the brand, Did the pills ever make you dizzy?  I mean thats one thing im scared of.  Having side effects that make me feel even worse or even more dizzy.  I guess though if i do take anti anxiety medication and my symptoms dissappear then ill know it isn tmy heart or cancer or whatever.

This past summer, I had an episode which resulted in an overnight hospital stay. I'd been having a few palpatations, but suddenly had what I call a PING. I was laying on the couch and PING...then my arm went numb and I was dizzy! I got up and took an asprin.

I decided if it happened again, I would tell my husband and we would go to the urgent car. Ping'd again with the same symptoms a few minutes later and off we went. The palpatations were worse and I started tachcardia. Uregent care sent me to the hospital.

In the ER, I ping'd again while on monitor bu t they did not have me hooked to a monitor. I STILL do not know what that was!!! Any ideas??

The next day, the did a cath and told me that this was all stress related. My heart was perfect.(My mom had just had a light stroke and is fine now, but I had been upset over that.)

They told me that I have PVCs and Iwas sent home from the hospital with no medicine. Later that week my family doc put me on atenolol 25mg.

I still have palps and am currently wearing an event monitor. No stress now except for the palps. I've had one really bad weekend when I had several a minute and it lasted constanly for an afternoon, then ocassionally since. One night, I also had a burning sensation in my chest radiating through my arm and back, but no palpitations.

I only had the pings with the marked dizziness those three times but wonder what they were!!! I also wonder what the burning was! ANy Ideas.

feeling like you spun around a bunch is typical of inner ear problems, so is the noise u hear (fluid moving around in your ear) that "foggy" feeling, is textbook of severe anxiety.. I had debilitating anxiety for a while.. for about two months, every day, all day, i was terrified of dying. It was horrible..I couldnt eat or sleep,i tried counting out loud to calm down, i stopped that after one night i actually counted to 3 thousand trying to fall asleep. I frequently got these feelings, which i described as just slow... Ide feel off, and if someone asked me what was wrong, ide say im feeling slow right now, very foggy, like ur there but ur not REALLY there... This is called being dissociative and is a copeing mechanism our brain has to try and seperate the mind from the anxiety the body is feeling..You can spend the rest of your life getting tests to try and find a physical problem that doesnt exsist. i suggest you make an appointment to see a phsychiatrist, or at least your regular doctor, and talk about your anxiety symptoms.

as far as my ear. in my left ear i hear alot of crackling noises. sometimes more then others. no pain or anything.  Just a constant crackling sound whenever i talk, eat etc.  sometimes it goes away but comes back

I have different types of dizziness.  Alot is just a kind of foggy feeling i get. Like my brain is clogged. Its hard to explain it.   and recently ive been getting dizzy spells that are more like vertigo.  Like i feel off balance. kind of the feeling you get when u spin around.   I am 26 years old.  No family history of anything specific.   I think i do suffer from anxiety im sure I cant exclude that all together.

I have had a blood test done which checked for all the basic stuff plus thyroid function etc.  Ive gotten an ekg, and a 24 hour holter monitor recently.  All the doctor said about the holter monitor is "very good".  i dont know where to go from here.  I dont have insurance right now so its extra difficult to get a complete barrage of testing. Which i probably need to figure this one out.

There isnt nesecarily a kind of "cardiac dizziness" There is vertigo, and presyncope.. When you feel dizzy, does it seem like the room is spinning? Can you hear? What are your symptoms

Have you been to an Ear Nose and Throat doctor? Dizziness is typically caused by inner ear problems. It can also be caused
by anxiety.

Thanks for your reply.  Yeah i have no idea which direction to go.  First i was worried about the skip beats i was feeling.  Now im worried about feeling dizzy and clogged brain.  I dunno what to do or what tests to take. I got a blood test, ekg, and holter monitor.  Should i make sure its not cardiac related or cancer?   I can claim i know im anxious sometimes and dwell and have anxiety symptoms, but i dont know if its just that anymore

I get that periodically during the day, I was really having it bad at night during my sleep I actually felt dizzy while sleeping, when I would feel that spin I would jump up from sleep, but at that time I was on all kinds of meds, but like right now I am sitting and kinda feel like if I shift my eyes my head feels airy.  I wonder the same things does it come & go or lasts for a time.  I also get like this choked up feeling at times mostly when I'm little worked up like from anxiety.  If I'm talking sometimes it hits me & I have to stop and literally grab my left breast and lift it up to relieve the pressure.  But what's so unusual is that I burp after I get this feeling.  I'm a constant belcher, because I suffer from GERD, all of this is so confusing & frightening at times because you just don't know which way to go with it all.  But I also get palpitations too, all of this takes place at the same time.  It also happens if I'm on my feet for too long, I get this choked pressure feeling in my chest and then I get this sharp nag pain in my back directly on the left.  It worries me most when I am driving the car w/the kids...
