His doctors must feel that his condition is stable if all his other tests came out good. Many people with low ejection fractions function quite well. Shortness of breath on walking stairs or other minor exertion, fatigue, weakness, dizziness are all classic signs of heart failure. With the proper treatment many people see their ejection fraction greatly improve or even return to normal. Again if all his other tests came out good and his blood pressure is ok they must feel he is in no immediate danger. Hope it all works out for him.
No meds. He has had a couple of episodes where he gets weak, dizzy and sweats really bad. He has had no heart damage according to tests. EKG was normal 2 days before the stress test.
What type of stress test? Normal ejection fraction is 55 to 70%. At 16% they would usually start him on meds immediately unless he is already on them. An echocardiogram will give them a pretty good idea as to what's going on with him. In most cases he would see a cardiologist immediatly with a 16% EF.
I think it depends on the underlying cause. It may be reversible. There are people here who have had very low EF and it has normalised again. I don't know much about this type of thing but I just wanted to give you an answer. I'm sure some of the other forum members can help you out. They know alot more. Good luck.
