ENLARGED ASCENDING AORTA

I AM SEEKING INFORMATION RELATED TO AN ASCENDING AORTIC ENLARGEMENT.  I AM A 47 YEAR OLD "HEALTH NUT" NATURAL BODYBUILDER. I WAS DIAGNOSED AT THE EMERGENCY ROOM WITH A 4.4 CM. ASCENDING AORTA. I WAS TOLD TO STOP WEIGHT LIFTING BECAUSE OF THE DANGER OF A TEAR IN THE ARTERY. DOES ANYONE HERE KNOW OF A CASE SIMILAR TO MINES AND IF THERE IS ANY CARDIOLOGIST OUT THERE SPECIALIZING IN ATHLETES?

THANKS

SAUL

Try Richard Devereaux or John Elefteriades.  You can Google their names.

It's unfortunate for you, since you are a body builder, but yes - it's a very good idea to suspend that altogether. That doesn't mean that you can't work out, even vigorously - but not with weights. It's standard procedure, and every cardiologist and/or surgeon will tell you so most likely. (I had an ascending aortic aneurysm repaired last year)
