I have been taking my blood pressure at home and the average reading is about 125/80, but I sufffer from an anxiety disorder, and on my recent visit to the doctor my bp was 160/110 with a pulse of 110.I was having an anxiety attack which seems to happen every doctor visit.  I have had a treadmill test a year ago and all was normal.  A cardiologist wants to do an echocardiogram on me and put me on a beta blocker.  My question is should I go on a beta blocker when my bp is normal except in times of great stress, and will the stress and high bp that I am surely going to experience while taking the echo test create problems in getting a true reading of the function of my heart.
