Dear Doctor,
Thanks once again for taking my question, I just received a
copy of my echo taken in January of last year , I live overseas
and I will not be seeing the cardiologist where I live for another 2 months. I want to avoid having another echo because where I live echos cost over u.s$ 1250.00.
THe measurement is as follows:

These are two different measurements taken off of the same echo,
as I said before I was diagnosed with marginal concentric left
venticular hypertrophy.
My question is does these measurements confirm that finding and
do you think I should have an repeat echo done now or should i wait another year.
Some ECGs I have suggest LVH others DO NOT. I am still confused!

Dear hank,
Where do you live? I didn't know it was outside the US. Remember that echo is a 2 dimensional image of a 3 dimensional object. Therefore the different measurements reflect different "cuts" of the image plane. The numbers reflect only very slight increase in the wall thickness. Normal wall thickness is about 10mm during diastole (rest). The thickest measurement during diastole in your case is 12mm. If you were in the US I don't think your doctor would want to repeat an echo any earlier than 1 year.
