Effects of Medication

I started Diovan about 2 weeks ago.  How long does it take to get into my system to be effective.  Also, I am trying to quit smoking, I have my self down to 7-10 daily, can I use the Gum or Patch with Diovan and Lopressor?  Thank you so much for your feedback.

Dear Bushkey,

Diavan is an angiotensin receptor blocker that helps to lower the blood pressure through modification of the renin-angiotensin system.  It starts working soon after the first dose.  In general nicotine withdrawal systems can be used with most medications but you should check with your doctor or pharmacist first before starting.  Quiting smoking is the number 1 thing you can do to improve your overall health.  Best wishes.
