Elevated Pulse Rate

I am 65 years old. I am diabetic-blood sugar is in good control-averages 110. Blood pressure is very good--average a.m. is 100/60,p.m. is 110/85. Pulse is 70 to 90 in a.m. and 80 to 92 in p.m. It has spiked to 101 in afternoon with 141/71 BP.
My Doctor says not to worry, but it seems high to me at times. What are guidelines for normal pule rates? I understand rates for well conditioned athletes can quite low(40), but is there a perfect range? My weight is
155 lbs and I am 5'10" tall.
I am unable to find any published guidlines.
