Elevated cholesteral/Toprol XL

by sand1944, Jul 26, 2008 09:48PM
My LDL is 223 and before 222.  when taking toprol XL 50-75 mg.   My cholesterol is 177 when I am not on antihypertensive drugs.  Is there any documentation that proves Toprol XL can elevate cholesteral levels.
                   Thank you,   Sandra Smigielski R.N.

I can't answer your question, but I have a few observations...

Did your diet or exercise regimen change when you started taking this drug?  This class of drugs is famous for making exercise more difficult, and also slows down the metabolism which means less calories are burned, etc.  I had a rather impressive weight gain after I started taking a beta blocker and my cholesterol level increased, but apparently after my body got used to it, the weight went off and the cholesterol level was reduced.

Hi : Toprol  aka  Nasty Bad medication !
Yes  you can find online a few web sites , that will tell you this !  look under side effects of toprol xl -  you can find it by reading  (problems with toprol xl)  it should come up !

a long while ago (years) bbc news reported the u.k medical asso , had found beta blockers caused  cholesterol to build up in most people who took it. so they limited the use of beta blockers  - they also reported that due to adverse side effects , beta blockers would be in limited useage in the u.k.

ccbs were attacked too  for cancer risks!

these two pages of reports by the bbc news group , have vanished into cyber space
as I cant to date find them anywhere online !
I figure the pharm companys paid the news sorce to delete them !
out of sight - out of mind !

but yes , you can find information reported  online about toprol and beta blockers.

hope that helped you   booger the nose
