Endocarditis risk - dental implant

I am supposed to be having a dental implant this spring.  I will of course be having not only 2 grams of antibiotics an hour before the procedure, but also a course of antibiotics for two weeks.  However, I have read that sometimes later on bacteria can get under the crown and into the bloodstream.  Since I have already had endocarditis in 2004 (I had my mitral valve repaired in 2005), I do not want to get it again!!!  What are my risks?

But you are not having a crown placed, instead you are having a prosthetic implanted. During this procedure the only time you have a risk for developing bacteremia and seeding the valve is during the procedure and immediately afterwards ehen there is loss of epithelium over the prosthesis. In 4-5 days the area will be epithelialized and not at any higher risk for causing you endocarditis.
