Hi Knightrider,

My chest X ray came back with enlarge heart as well.  2 echos, one said enlarged Atrial and the other one said enlarged Ventricle.  Both cardio pretented know nothing and don't want to talk about these.  One of that said, if EF good, they're not going to be worried about others or what ever mentioned on the reports.

I can't get into that "ghost place" anymore.  Can you?

Take care.

Hi knightrider and Pika, do not worry!  I was diagnosed first with cardiomegaly only after with cardiomyopathy,  one doesn't have to go with the other, but could.

This is fom the Mayo Clinic site:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/enlarged-heart/HQ00623

Enlarged heart (cardiomegaly) is not a disease but a sign of an underlying problem. It can have many causes, including:
High blood pressure
Heart valve disorders
Weakness of the heart muscle (cardiomyopathy)

Severe anemia
Thyroid disorders
Excessive iron in the body (hemochromatosis)
Abnormal protein buildup in an organ (amyloidosis)
In some people, an enlarged heart causes no signs or symptoms. Others may experience:

Breathing difficulties
Shortness of breath
Dizziness
Abnormal heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
Swelling (edema)
Treatment is directed at the underlying cause of enlarged heart.

and...
its over for "ghost place" :(
Good to see you both.:)

knightrider: an enlarged heart is not a condition itself, but the result of another process.  You need to know why you have an enlarged heart and what part of it is enlarged.  An echo, an EKG, possibly a Holter monitor would all be good tests to have to determine heart function, possible causes and if there are any associated arrhythmias - either causing or resulting from the cardiomegaly.  I know this is scary, and I know first hand what it feels like to hear those words come out of the doctor's mouth.  In my case, mine was caused by pregnancy and was reversible.  Often, it can be reversed, or at least held where it's at so it doesn't worsen.  Common causes are hypertension and valve problems.

Call them for results/reports.  A month is long enough to wait.  Ask about the tests I mentioned if you have not had them already.  If you're not seeing a cardiologist yet, see one soon.

I hope everything goes well for you, best of luck.

My first echo said mildly enlarged left ventricle.  That time I had A-Fib.  May be it was caused by the pacemaker.  It has gone now.  That time with all the valves TRIVIAL (Except Aortic, nil regurgitation).

Second echo said Mitral = mild reg.  Aortic = nil reg.  Tricuspid = moderate reg.   Pulmonary = trivial.
This one with normal left ventricle but mildly enlarged left atrial.

I heard from people said, if the heart growing bigger and bigger.  One of the spot is very thin.  One day, that thin spot will "POP" and can die.  Pacemaker and ICD will not cover this for life saver.

Of course, the doctor can fix this before it "POP".  Tony said it is called "RUPTURE".
