Enlarged heart

by selyons, Oct 26, 2007 02:03PM
I am a 48-YO woman 20-lbs overweight with high cholesterol and a family history of early heart disease.  My GP saw x-rays of my spine (I have quite severe scoliosis/kyphosis lumbar and lesser in thorasic) and said my heart was a bit enlarged but that I shouldn't worry about it.  I've had two 24-Holter Monitors, numerous EGKs, blood tests, etc, because of episodes of rapid heart rate at night, but nothing has shown up and my Holter studies were normal and my EKGs have been normal, blood sugar very good, BP 117/77.  I had maternal hypertension with my second child but it is now normal.  Should I ask to have my heart size explored further with a cardiologist?   Can scoliosis affect heart?

I would certainly ask for an echo, it will tell you the dimensions of your heart and how well it is working. It will also tell you how good the structural integrity of your heart is.
