Enlarged left atrial chamber

Posted by Linda on June 10, 1999 at 11:36:12
I was told today that a have an enlarged left atrial chamber. It isn't a major enlargement but it is above normal for someone my age I was told.  Heart disease is rampant in our family.  My doctor was a bit unclear as to what might have caused this.  Can you give me an information?  I am a 41 year old female, obese.
Thank you for providing this service.

Dear Linda
The two most likely causes are high blood pressure or mitral valve disease.
I hope this has been useful. I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to write back.
