Excessive fluid on the heart

by perrandi, Mar 29, 2003 12:00AM
A friend's 5-month-old baby just died and preliminary autopsy results show "excessive fluid on the heart". What does this mean? They think the vomit (originally thought she choked on vomit) was a by-product of the heart failure. What might have caused this? Could we have been aware of this condition somehow? Could something have been done to prevent the death?

Dear Perrandi,

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend's child.
Unfortunately, I would need much more information to provide a knowledgeable answer to your questions. I would suggest having a long talk with the doctors who treated your friend's child. Send my regards.

Thanks for your question,
