Extra Heart Beat

I have recently been experiencing extra heart beats - it comes on periodically during the day and I am not aware of them during the night when sleeping.  I have had two 24 hour tapes done and they have shown a couple of extra beats, but apart from that they were normal.  These tapes were done when  was not experiencing my current symptoms.  I get a surging feeling from my stomach/diaphragm and then feel as if my heart is missing a beat.  My GP thinks I have diaphram irritation and has put me on Omeprazole once a day, and says I am suffering from benign palpitations.   Will these symptoms evenually settle and should I have another 24 hour tape done?

Like when your stomach drops out from you when you go down a rollercoaster! But I think that's an anxious feeling too, cause it comes right after the _pause_thump_racing heart palpitation.

Hey,
What exactly do you mean by surging sensation? If it's what I'm thinking, then I get it too. I could never really explain to the GP properly. I kind of feel that my heart is trembling or fluttering? Is that what you feel? Sometimes I have the sensation on my neck too...

Hey! That's what mine feel like too! And they told me my event monitor showed nothing? I think it caught one PAC. Well, I can't hardly believe it, because I feel them and they are real to me. I get lightheaded and breifly short of breath and kinda feel like I could be queasy but it all passes within a few minutes of the palpitation.
They say many things can cause palpitations....it's really annoying. I don't want them to increase-- having one or two here and there are enough for me!

Hi,
Just wanted to reply because yours is the only other description that has mentioned the 'surging' sensation. I too get palpitations and have decribed them to the doctor and cardiolgist as a surging sensation from my stomach area but they looked at me like I was crazy! I have since had lots of tests (ECG, ECHO, 24 hour ECG and stress test). All were coming back clear until finally in the final minute of the stress test I had one and it showed up as a ventricular couplet (ectopic beat). I was told it was nothing to worry about and no medication or further investigation was needed. However they have been getting more frequent and can make me feel quite lightheaded and woozy so have been back to my doctor today and have now been prescribed a low dose (10mg 3x daily) of Propranolol so I will see if this helps. Just wanted to say that I know exactly what you mean by the surging sensation - in fact I was beginning to think it wasn't my heart at all but perhaps something to do with my adrenal gland until it showed up on the stress test!

I would suggest that you get an event monitor, since the timed holters failed to show anything. These will be activated by your symptoms and will show what arrhythmia is present at the times of these symptoms. If your heart function is normal then the PVCs may cause you some symptoms of palpitations but are not associated with worsening morbidity or mortality.
