Extraordinary and uncrollable high blood pressure

My husband is 59 year old type 1 diabetic with blood pressure readings as high as 240 over 127.  He has tried every group of blood pressure meds and has bad reactions to all of them. Many have actually made his blood pressure higher.  He is now having kidney problems and I believe CHF (will get MD results tomorrow from cardiologist). Is their anything natural that he can take that will not cause the side effects of pharmacutical meds? I have been buying pomegranite juice and have him eating bananas, but so far, there doesn't seem to have any effect.  He is now going to the wellness pool at the YMCA and doing some light excercizes a couple times a week.  He is 6 ft tall and ways 240 lbs, a little heavy but not morbidly obese.  Any suggestions?

As I'm sure you're aware, high blood pressure can damage the kidneys, but also if the kidneys aren't functioning properly, can raise the blood pressure. Has your husband been checked for sleep apnea?  This can also cause high blood pressure. Always remember that "natural" can be very dangerous.  Natural products are not regulated and can greatly interfere with other meds.  The best thing he can do for now is avoid caffeine, and salt totally.  I don't know where the banana comes in, except that people on BP meds are usually told to eat a banana a day if they are taking a BP med that also has a diuretic in it.  This compensates for postassium loss from the diuretic. I think once they correct his kidney problem, his pressure will go down.  I just went thru all this with my husband who is 62, and it appears that sleep apnea is causing his, and he is being fitted for a breathing mask.  But after one of his surgeries, his kidneys weren't functioning properly, and his BP shot up.  Once they got the kidneys working correctly, his BP went back down.  Along with the caffeine and salt, make sure he avoids even salt laden food, read the labels and look for things with the lowest sodium levels.  Don't add salt to foods while cooking, and if need be, hide the salt.  If he is as stubborn as my husband, you'll need to do this : )  Good luck to you both.
