Extrasystoles and rapid heart beat

by JimBy1236, May 04, 2009 05:26AM
My question is can extrasystoles (occasional skipped beats) result in rapid heart rate (atrial fibriilation or sinus tachardia is that what it's called?) for a few seconds (15 seconds) are they connected?

I consider myself a healthy 28 year old male.
I was diagnosed with extrasystoles 10 year ago (age 18), had an ECG , occasionally getting a missed beat or two like once a week, sometimes once a day. Was told there was nothing wrong with my heart that it was normal particularly for skinny guys like myself. The ECG showed some what were called "rabbit ears", do they indicate anything? Anyway I was told that was nothing to worry about either. Haven't had it again for years until just recently.
But sometimes after a couple of successive missed beats the heart starts going really fast like fluttering, which fixes itself within about 15 seconds. Alternatively the heart sometimes pounds really fast (160 bpm) as if I've just been exercising, again fixing itself within a few seconds. Is there connections there or are the two usually unrelated?
I'm booked in for blood tests and cardiologist visit anyway to do some further test.

Well, paired PVC's will look like two long rabbit ears. If the QRS peak is tall with two peaks and the left one is higher than the right, it may be v-tach. But really, only a cardiologist can tell you what's what.

A cardiologist can intepret the ekg better than anyone else, and yes pvc's, pac's and any irregular rhythm can upset things for sure. The heart is just trying to "reset" things, and consequently we are wired so amazingly that everything comes into play to compensate.

i had all kinds of quirky heart issues on a daily basis and its just a matter of ruling out the major things, and letting your heart be healthy as possible.
hope that helps
