Dear jan,
Factor 5 is a part of the clotting cascade and abnormalities in this factor can lead to an increased risk of blood clots. Usually these are venous clots but it is possible to have a stroke particularly if there is also a patent foramen ovale (PFO). Oftentimes coumadin is recommended for individuals with factor V disorders. Inappropriate sinus tachycardia (IST) will not increase stroke risk although afib will. I would recommend seeing a hematologist for additional blood testing and consideration of coumadin therapy.
I have recently been diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse. This worries me because I am an 18 year old female. I also have asthma which is sometimes difficult to control. My doc put me on Tiazac because after reviewing my 24-hr Holter he saw I've been having long runs of palpitations. He recently increased the Tiazac to 180mg, but it's too strong and makes me feel awful.
He mentioned some type of surgical procedure as a last resort.
My question: Is it normal at my age to experience such intense and persistent palpitations? Will this get worse with age? Is surgery neccessary?
