Failed ablation

by Darlene, Nov 01, 1999 12:00AM
Doctors,
I had an ablation 3 weeks ago and because of the "spot" that needed to be ablated was unreachable the doctor was unable to do it successfully(spot is on left side close to AV - possibly on outside of heart). I have been having the VT's regularly for 2 yrs and unsucessfully medicated. The doctors have used beta blockers, channel blockers and at this time, since ablation, Tambocor.  I still am having a struggle to function in every day life.  My doctor said in 3 to 6 months he would like to try again that FDA has approved new instruments and possibly could help successfully ablate my heart. My question is should I just wait or get a second opinion?

I'm not sure I can answer your question.  If the Tambacor is controlling your rhythms and you are comfortable waiting then it is probably OK.  Otherwise you could seek a second opinion at a center such as the Cleveland Clinic where we routinely are using new instruments long before they are on the market as part of the approval procedure.
