Failed cartoid artery surgery

Failed cartoid artery surgery

I have an 85% blocked right artery and My Surgeon  tried surgery but it failed for the blockage is too far up in my head and the Doctor told me it was too dangerous and
and he couldn't get to the plaque.  He told me to go home and enjoy each day.
I don't know what to do now - do I have any Options except to try not to get the remaining 15% blocked.
I am 63 years old, have had a double bypass, aorta  bi femoral bypass. bypass on
legand have had several strokes.   My Mother died at 41 of artherosclerosis and my Father at 66 from a stroke.

Any suggestions - I have seen 2 other Doctors and they agree...........  Thank you
for your time

Your doctors should have told you not to worry. Either carotid artery can supply 100% of the brain, unless you have a congenital defect in your "Circle of Willis", which can separate the two carotid arteries.

Haven't you ever heard of people having one, 100% blocked carotid artery? Usually the surgeons do not try to stent, or perform an endocardectomy when the blockage is total, as long as the other carotid is clear.

Also medicare now pays for the stenting of blocked carotid arteries. A couple of years ago they would not.

Good luck,

Jack

I agree with the other poster, you have two carotid arteries for a reason, one will do the job fairly well.  I have a twist in my left carotid, basically a backwards 6 shape to it.  They watch it but to date will do nothing about it.

You certainly have risk factors and you should be aggressively treating your cholesterol with statins, dietary changes etc but living your days waiting for the next health issue is not a way to live.  Your Dr is right, enjoy each and every day and manage your health issues proactively.  I presume they are aware of the wellbeing of your other carotid artery?

Hang in there, I know its rough but things will settle down.

ask your doctors the following. this is shown at times to reduce cholestrol and other deposits that may cause blocage. but as i said ask your doctor before taking them

1. flax seed oil. cleans artieries and is a natural antiinflamitory
2. acai berry juice, promotes good circulation and stops buildup of plaque
3. celery juice half cup daily.
4. lots of green vegies, spinach, broccoll rabe, zuchnni, chicken no skin, no fried foods,
5. exercize. walking half hour a day or every other day. again ask your doc about this first
6. lots of water. NO soda, cut sugar out of diet. cut fats, cheeses and such

again ask your doc before starting any of these. but many people including docs believe this along with medication may definetly imrove your arteriala and heart health
