False Positives

False Positives

How common are false positives on a stress test?  I asked  my electrophysiologist if I should have one to help restore my confidence. (underwent RFA for flutter 3 months ago)  I'm 47, male marathon runner.  Cardiologist says he doesn't see a need for one but will order it if I wish.  He adds "there is a risk for a false positive though"  Thanks!

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-30% depending on the type of test.  Generally a false positive test will lead to a heart cath.
