Fast beats

According to my cardiologist/ep doctor I have a fast heart rate that originates from my sinus node . I've had 2 ep studies and ablations and still have tachycardia. My doctor said that my only options now are medication (sotalol) or modification of the sinus node which he feels will cause me to end up with a pacemaker. This is the forth time in a year I've been put back on sotalol, no other meds seem to control my heart rate, but even sotalol only works for awhile and then I seem to adjust and the fast heart rate returns. The constant rapid heart rate raises my blood pressure and causes a lot of chest pain and so must be controlled. Are there any advances that might be on the horizon for individuals with inappropriate sinus tachycardia? Thanks for your time.

Thanks for your reply. My Doctor is terrific and actually for my last ep study/ ablation he did use the bio sense carto mapping system. His team showed it to me before they started the procedure. It was a fairly new piece of equipment for our hospital. I thought it was facinating and I'm sure the accuracy is much improved by the 3-D mapping system. Thanks again for this wonderful forum. G'day Neener,
I know exactley what your going through. I'm 22 and I have been experiencing persistant tachycardia, chest pain and shortness of breath for just over 5 weeks now. ive had numerours tests done so far which the doctors/ my cardiologist has concluded that i have persistant sinus tachycardia and high blood pressure and thinks that anxiety isnt the actual cause of my problems even after the hospital previously diagnosed me with anxiety. I have not been told about abolition as of yet id imagine because its early stages and i have only seen my cardiologist once so far and he is still investigating my situation, so i cant really give you advice in that regard. i'm due back at cardiologist at begining of sept for results of numerous urine tests.

For me its been a case of sit and wait ever since my episode occurred which has been frustrating at the least. Although i have found this website and forum an very valuable resourse for my condition.

With thanks to the cardiologist on this forum, with his help i have been able to track down a cardiologist here in Australia that may provide me with further help.

Best of luck Neena, keep me posted!!! feel free to mail me at ***@**** if anyone has any other advice or info.

Cheers from Sydney,Australia!

Deer neener,
There are no real blockbusters for inappropriate sinus tachycardia (IST) on the horizon that I know about.  There are new tools such as the CARTO mapping system which helps to localize the origin of the tachycardia that are useful in ablation of IST.  We currently are doing a small number of IST ablations here.  If you would like to be considered for this procedure I would recommend making an appointment with Dr. Natale.
