Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a thickening of the septal wall (sometimes the wall can be thickened in other areas, but the septum is the most common area) whick causes a stenosis, or narrowing ,of the mitral valve and that adds to the regurg. You should ask or cardiologist if you have a thickening of the septal wall. I saw you asked about a ruptured LV. My father dies from this. It is rare for this to happen. High blood pressure with a thinning wall is usually the reason for this to happen. My father was on Kidney dialysis for 7 years before his death and that was probably a contributing factor as well.

All doctors said I had MVS/MVR. Never heard of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy before. What's the difference?

Do you actually have mitral valve stenosis or do you have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy where the septum is thickened causing a stenosis at the mitral valve which also will cause a regurg?
