Fish Oil's

by FoozMike, Mar 14, 2008 08:35AM
Ok so i have been taking fish oil pills for over 6 months as well as lipitor for the last 3 months. My cholesterol is much better now but my TRIs continue to be between 250 and 300 this is making my vldl between 40 and 60. The lipitor brought it down from between 450 and 600. My doctor told me to continue the fish oil and retest in 3 months. Have you guys heard fo Flaxseed oil pills? Someone told me to try taken that instead of the fish oil and see if it helps.. What are your thoughts?

Don't take the fish oil pills! buy Carlson or any GOOD brand fish oil liquid.
I use Carlson lemon flavored, I take 1 tablespoon 2x a day. pills you would have to take 30 2x per day

Lovaza (Omicor is the same thing) is recommended by my Cardiologist and I've seen my Tris go down.  I've also lost weight and made a conscious effort to reduce sugar in my diet, which of course helps as well.  A secondary benefit has been a reduction in skin bruising caused by aspirin and Plavix.  The reason I take Lovaza is because it is a regulated product, the only one on the market that I know of.  It is highly refined and filtered, and one can see the clarity of it compared to over the counter fish oil pills.  Many of the fish oils come from the carcasses of farmed salmon.  These fish are fed foods that often contain mercury and other impurities, and live unnaturally close to one another.  Instead of the beautiful pink color found in wild salmon their flesh is white, so chemicals are added which turn the flesh pink artificially. Omega 3 oils also come from Mackeral and Tuna, and these fish also tend to have higher concentrations of Mercury and other impurites in their fat.  Because the oils are obtained from compressing the fish carcasses, the impurities are also concentrated, and refining and filtering are very important.  I was connected to the Salmon industry for many years as both a commercial fisherman, then involved with the farmed salmon business.   I believe that highly filtered oils are superior, that's why I pay the higher price.

Don't forget regular aerobic exercise as you work to get your Tri's down.  It's a very important part of the process.  Best wishes.
