Flip/Flop/wacky beats.. Is this paulpitations?

Hey everyone, for the past 2 years or so i have been getting palps so the doctors says, but i read other peoples opioins on there palps and it sorta matches up to mine... people say when they get an attack that there heart is racing fast.. well mine sorta drops a beat, then has this HUGE beat that nearly pops out my chest, then after the huge beat can either run fast for a bit or go straight back normal. somtimes can get them 3 times in a row, all day everyday, about 50 times a day, i guess i wonder if this huge beat is normal.. somtimes i feel like my heart is flipping and flopping around in there.. i have done test such as blood, stress test, ecg and holters been to hospital many times, but when i do that i dont get palps, and i see other people have the same prob..somtimes the huge beat is soft other times it hurts.. is maybe me being skinny also a prob.. but some are worse then others.. i think this is also causes me headaches.. can also axiety cause pains in my left arm, numbness down the ldft side of my body? i dont drink, smoke. do durgs anymore, i dont have caffiene. and i do get pains in my heart area but i got told its mucles related. soo this somtimes hit at once. also get mucles spaspm around my herat area. not to mention when im about to get a palp i feel somtimes i need to cough.. if anyone can help that would be much appreciated..

Thank you a bunch
Adam

Hi Adam
This sounds exactly the same as what I get.  How old are you if you don't mind me asking and do you have any heard disease in the family?  Next time you get the flip flogs and palps you should go straight to er so they can do an ecg and hopefully catch them.  I did that and they said it was all fine so try not to worry about them now.  I think anxiety plays a big part, when im on holiday or completely relaxed with no worries i don't feel them and when im back at work bang! Also at night it is worse for me (can't lay on my left side at all!).

I was told massaging your left pulse in your neck helps control them, it does help a bit, also cut down on sugary snacks etc.

Hope you feel better soon

hi adam,
from what you describe, i'd guess that you're getting what are called ectopic beats, probably pvc's or pac's. i have pac's and feel symptoms very similar to yours. they're very scary and uncomfortable, but in a structurally normal heart, they're totally harmless.
i'm 31 and i began feelings these weird skipping and pausing beats, often followed by a beat that goes "WHAM" and it feels like my heart will pop out of my chest. i was sure that i was going to die, and went to the er. i was told about this affliction there, and it was very hard to believe that these episodes weren't serious or life threatening. it's been 3 years since i've started dealing with these buggers, and it does get easier.
read through the forum, and you'll see that nearly everyone on it has these same or very similar sensations. many of us are on anti-anxiety meds because of the strain this condition puts on you psychologically. i held off for a long time, but after years of losing sleep, and even feeling uncomfotable leaving the house at times, i started taking lexapro, which has helped me tremendously, as does reading this forum.
you're among many people with the same sensations, and unpleasant affliction. if you have questions of concerns--just ask! everyone is very helpful.
take care,
heathe

Hi there.  I am on Ciprilex week two now because of my obession/anxiety/panic about my heart skipping beats.  So does the Lexapro stop you from thinking about your heart and palpitations?  Ciprilex is the same thing (I live in Canada so this is the Canadian version).  I am stilling paniciking and scared silly about my heart skipping though.  How long does it take for this stuff to make you start feeling better?  I take 10mg/day now.

hey carrie.
i can only speak for my experience, but the lexapro has helped me TREMENDOUSLY.  i have been dealing with these pac's and panic attacks for about 3-4 years, and at times haven't been able to work or leave home because of them. in addition to the lexapro, i've begun talk therapy, and it's brought me huge relief, too.
the lexapro has seemed to take the edge off of my anxiety and i haven't had a panic attack since i've been on it. i also have major anxiety about going to the doctor, (white coat hypertension) and the lexapro has helped that, too. now when i'm plagued by the pac's, i'm not panicky. it's more uncomfortable than scary, and i think since i don't have the viscious circle of the panic then anxiety that makes them worse, they're much shorter in duration.
it took about 3 or 4 weeks for the affects to be noticeable for me.
if you want to, feel free to email me directly with any more questions at ***@****
take care!

Great to hear some of these meds actually work.  I've tried Klonopin, Lexapro, and ativan and they made things worse.  They actually created much more anxiety.  Every time my heart went wild I would take a pill and the fact that it would fool me into thinking my heart was beating ok actually made my anxiety sky high.  So I had to get off those meds.

Because none of the meds worked and my heart beat me violently for hours and hours, my whole left side developed irritation and aggravation.  Simple logic says that if those irregular beats go on for a long time, the heart muscle has to suffer some damage.  So, the issue isn't that they are harmless and will not kill you, but rather they make your life immensely miserable.  If they get that bad, then you may want to discuss an ablation procedure with your Electrophysiologist.

Hi everyone.  I started having flip flopping in my late 20's.  I have had every test out there and have been told that they are harmless.  I still am unsure of what causes them but they are aggrevating.  I think that it could be hormnal in women.  Are they dangerous?
