Flu shot

My ten year old daughter has heart disease and asthma.  Her PCP advises getting her a flu shot every year.  When I asked about getting a flu shot for my healthy 16 year old, he said that she shouldn't get a shot, because her body should be allowed to build up a natural immunity.  Will my ten year old, who already has health problems, be compromised by getting the annual flu shot?  I assume that the benefits outweigh the risks, but will she end up with less natural immunity to disease that if she were allowed to get the flu?  Thanks for your time.
