Fluctuating blood pressure

by Dorothy Sucre, Dec 24, 1999 12:00AM
I am 66 and in excellent general health, walk 3 miles every day. I do home monitoring of my blood pressure and find that my blood pressure varies from 150/95 to 90/60. Often within only 30 minutes. I am taking Monopril 40mg daily. I am on the thin side.  My stress test is normal as well as an echo. I keep my salt intake to about 1500 mg daily. My Dr. is reluctant to add another drug as I had severe reactions to beta blocker, alpha blocker and HCLTHZ. I guess this is sufficient medication for my hypertension?? Thanks for your opinion.

The flucuations may have to do with when the drug is "kicking-in".  You may do better with a slower release long acting drug for "smoother" control.

I have been on Monopril 10 mg for about a year.  I seem to get tired easier.  Would this be one of the side effects of the drug?
