Follow Up Echocardiagrams

How often would you recommend repeat echocardiagrams when intitial testing indicates trace MR, TR and PI?

Thank you.

Mel22,

Thanks for your extremely concise question!

If everything else was normal on the test, I wouldn't recommend any further follow-up echocardiography, unless it was indicated for something else.  That something else might be pre-op clearance, pre-chemotherapy clearance/evaluation, or if something changes in your condition.

The findings of trace MR, TR, and PI are each found in at least 20% of the population.

Hope that helps.

I have a question regarding echocardiograms also.  My heart doctor has one done every year on me.  Is this because my father died of atherosclerosis?  I also have severe atrial arrhythmia for which I am on Corgard for.  Could anyone enlighten me on this?  Thanks.
