Follow up ultrasounds?/MV repair

Here's my question. I had a successful mitral valve repair in 2004. My current cardiologist, who I have been going to for the last 2 years has told me that he does not want to do anymore yearly ultrasounds since all looks good. However my surgeon had mentioned to me back in 2004 post surgery, that I should have yearly follow up ultrasounds to ensure the valve and repIr are holding up well. I'm not happy with this news. What do others think about this. ??????  My surgeon can't see me as a patient as he is only a surgeon. My current cardiologist says that he is my doctor and he feels that yearly US would be a waste
Thnx

To be honest I can see your anxiety over this, but in retrospect the valve has done great over the last 10 years. Personally I think 2 or 3 yearly checkups would now be better suited.

I would find another cardiologist. The surgeon himself told you that you needed a yearly ultrasound.  If the surgeon had felt sure that the repair was good for a lifetime, he would not have told you that.  And this non-surgeon thinks he knows better?  I'm sorry, but I would not be at all comfortable with ignoring the surgeon's recommendation.  You're the one who is at risk, not the cardiologist, so IMO you need to find a cardiologist who respects both you and your other doctors.  Good luck.
