Food/Allergy related ectopics?

by Louise Jackson, Aug 09, 1999 12:00AM
I have been told that I get ectopic beats (sometimes for hours at at a time) that are totally benign.  As they started immediately after the birth of my baby, my Consultant thinks they may be hormonal and keeping a diary would seem, at least in part, to confirm this.  Have you heard of this?  How common is it?  Is it possible they could also be related to food or allergic reactions in some way?

Many thanks for your help.  It is so difficult to believe that many people get this and so worrying.

Dear Louise

I do not think that they are related to food or any sort of allergic reaction. Certainly, the stresses involved with being a new mother could serve s the trigger. While it is conceivable that hormonal factors may play a role, there is no definite evidence of this.

I hope this has been useful. I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to write back.
