Frequent PVC's

Frequent PVC's

I am 36y.o. and have noticed frequent pvc'c, especially after a night of drinking or if I become stressed.  What causes these frequent episodes and what can I do to minimize them?  Would increase in exercise help?  Should I see a cardiologist concerning these episodes?  We only have drinks on the weekends when we get together with friends.

Most PVC's are triggered by high catecholamine levels.  Alcohol initially increases catecholamines most likely leading to these occurences.  You are only 36 years old and I would not recommend taking a medication for this, however, try limiting you alcohol intake one weekend and see if they go away.  If so, then you have your answer.   Very rarely lots of PVC (thousands) in one day may lead to a heart problem called PVC induced cardiomyopathy which presents with swelling in the legs, shortness of breath and fatigue.  I am certain that you don't have that, but if you notice that your PVC's persist or get worse despite not drinking any alcohol, you should see someone about that.

I also have frequent PVC's.  Alcohol does make them worse.  Without Alcohol I average over 30,000 in a 24hr period.  If I were you I would lay off the alcohol and see what happens.  I have stopped smoking, drinking coffee and drink very little alcohol.  I still have my problem.  Right now I am on Coreg after trying atenolol.  My cardiologist is puzzeled because I am only 36 also.
