From E.F. of 30to55 in 18 mo.

On Nov.18 I submitted from 30 to 50 E.F.in 1yr.Thanks for your response.My last echo on Feb.1999 was 55%.The doctor gave me a copy of the reoprt :
2D and color doppler Echocardiogram: The left ventricle is of norman size withouthypertrophy.  There is a mild left ventricular dilatation present. The left ventricle  measures 6.0 global systolic left venttricular function is normal with an estimated  ejection fraction of 55%.There is no regional segmental wall motion abnormalities present. The mitral valve apparatus is normal.  There is a trace of mitral regurgitation into a dilated atrium.  The left atrium measures 5.0 cm. no atrial masses present.  The aortic valve is a thin/tricuspid valve with normal systolic cusp excursions. The aortic root is not dialated. There is no aortic stenosis or insufficiency present. There is a moderate pulmonic regurgiatation present.  Right ventricular systolic pressure measures  at the upper limit of normal at 29mm. mercury.  The inferior vena cava is not dialated.  There are no valular vegetations present.  There is no pericardial efusion present.
COMMENT;  THE GLOBAL LEFT VENTRICULAR FUNTION IS NORMAL WITH AN ESTIMATED EF OF 55%. THERE IS NO LEFT VENRICULAR HYPERTROPHY PRESENT
MY QUESTIONS ARE:
1. your prognosis?
2. I am very physically active, Do you see any harm in demanding  Cardiovasular such as  bicycling and hiking?

Dear Mike, thank you for your question.  Unfortunately, I cannot assess your prognosis nor advise you how to exercise in the Heart Forum.  However, I think your echo results are very good.    Therefore, I suggest that you speak with your physician to answer the questions that you have.
