Garlic

I am suffering from pregnancy induced hypertension.  It's been 6 months since the birth of my daughter, and am still fighting it.  I am now cut down to 10mg of Zestril.  I would like to try and fight this naturally along with my medication.  I've started taking Garlic pills.  It says that one pill is 1200 mg.  It says to take it one to four times daily.  I've just started taking these pills and have been taking it three times daily.  But, if it would be most beneficial to take it four times, I would.  Could you please tell me a little bit more about Garlic and what's the appropriate amount to take?  Any information would be helpful.  Thank You!

Dear Sara, thank you for your question. You should continue to take Zestril which is an excellent medication to treat hypertension.  Garlic pills will have no effect on your blood pressure and I don't recommend that you continue to take garlic.  Garlic probably won't hurt you, but it won't help with your blood pressure.  Also, you should not stop taking your Zestril without speaking with your physician first.
