Globulin Level

Globulin Level

I just got the results of a bloodwork I did and found out that my globulin level was 3.8g/dl and the reference range should be 1.9 to 3.6 g/dl. Please what does this mean?

Thanks

Dear Onombs,

Globulins are a group of proteins whose production is influenced by many tissues in the body. They are known to be elevated in people with forms of chronic liver disease. The exact meaning of their elevation remains a topic of debate.

In your case it is possible that the mildly elevated value could fall within the range of error for that particular laboratory. I would discuss this  with your  physician who would be able discuss this finding as it relates to any pre-existing conditions or the possibility that this may be a random finding.

Thanks for your question,

Hi, I just read your question and I just got my globulin test back today and the Dr says it's 4.4, he says he wants to keep an eye on me and retest it in a month. From what I have read I think I should be worried but I'm not sure. I really don't understand what any of it means. He said it could be several things and the last one he mentioned was leukemia. that's when I stopped listening. Now I'm trying to find out what I can about the numbers and what they mean. Can you enlighten me any? Thanks, Cheyenne
