Graves Disease

I am a 35 year old female, and am experiencing my second bout of Graves Disease.  I have just had my second baby (am 5 months post partum), and both times the Graves Disease has started about 3 months postpartum.  My endo says it is Graves (as opposed to postpartum thyroiditis (I did not have the scan).  I do have a goiter.

My two concerns are about the chances of remission after a second time (on PTU), and also about the weight gain on PTU.  I am a very active person (run and swim on a Masters team).  Because I just had a baby, I am still about 5 pounds more than my normal weight (130 pounds).  Last time I was 125 pounds when I started the PTU and gained 15 pounds.  What is the typical weight gain on the drugs?  Other than exercise and eating less, is there any way to slow down the weight gain?

Also, are my chances lower of remission after a second flare-up?

Thank you for your help!

Dear Lisa,

I would advise you to seek advise from the endocrinology site within this forum as this is not heart related.

Where is the endocronology site within this forum?  I have been looking all over the WEB for a good endocronology site.  Have found a couple, but none with ask the doctor feature.  Does anyone have an addy?

Most of these sites do not have an ask a doctor feature.
